3. Shoot 40 percent from 3-point range
Bobby Portis experienced a coming-out party in 2017-18. His scoring average saw a boost from 6.8 points per game in his second season to 13.2 per game last season. While his overall shooting percentage dipped slightly from 48.8 percent to 47.1, his 3-point percentage jumped from 33.3 percent to 35.9.
With this in mind, it’s fair to expect Portis to flirt with a 40 percent 3-point shooting average in the upcoming season. Last year, he shot 38 percent on corner 3s, which sets him up as a perfect complement for drive-and-dish ball-handlers like Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine and Jabari Parker. Portis also saw a huge increase on non-corner 3s, as he jumped from 30 percent in 2016-17 to 36 percent.
Playing in head coach Fred Hoiberg‘s offense, Portis should flourish once again in his role as first off the bench. His ability to knock down big shots will pay dividends for this team.
