Bobby Portis emerged last season as a legitimate threat off the bench for the Chicago Bulls. In 2018-19, he should be even better. Can he win Sixth Man of the Year?
The big story with the Chicago Bulls before the start of the 2017-18 season was the Bobby Portis–Nikola Mirotic training camp fight. Now, with Mirotic on the New Orleans Pelicans, Portis is free to excel with the Bulls.
The Bulls will get plenty of production from their frontcourt this season, with Lauri Markkanen, Portis and Jabari Parker all being capable of filling stat sheets. With the addition of rookie Wendell Carter Jr., this is now an area of strength for the Bulls. Portis’ abilities off the bench only adds excitement to this squad.
The former 22nd overall selection in the 2015 NBA Draft should be looking to take the next step in his development. Still just 23 years old, Portis is entering his fourth NBA season and will be looked upon for leadership with the second unit. This season serves as a contract year as well, as he is eligible for restricted free agency next summer.
Bulls fans should be anticipating another strong campaign from Bobby Portis. Here are three main goals for him as he enters the 2018-19 NBA season.
