Small Forward: Giannis Antetokounmpo

Honorable Mentions: Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George

After much internal debate, Giannis Antetokounmpo shifts from his normal position of point forward to the 3-spot, narrowly edging out another buddy of LeBron’s in Kevin Durant. While there’s no question KD is the superior and more well-known player right now, Giannis is the better choice for a number of reasons.

For starters, it’s entirely possible the Greek Freak owns the basketball world by the time filming starts next summer. He’s already a dominant two-way force and he’s only 23 years old. Under a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer, he’s rapidly approaching “Galactus, destroyer of worlds” territory. He already looks like a Monstar on the basketball court, making him a perfect fit.

For the sake of diversity, including an international basketball icon like Giannis would help make this movie a global hit, boosting his already ascending popularity in the process. The fact that he’s such a long-limbed, unstoppable force on the basketball court doesn’t hurt, and seeing “Dark Giannis” as a Monstar would be a ton of fun. He’s got the personality and charm for a lighthearted movie like this, even if the actual acting chops may or may not be there.

So why not put Giannis at the 4 where he belongs and KD at the 3? Because as much as the new Monstars’ bodies will be different from the original, we also can’t have three super tall, lanky-as-hell aliens on the court. Since both Giannis and KD fit that body type (along with our choice at center), for variety’s sake, we’re going with Giannis at the 3, our no-brainer choice at the 5 and one Warrior we’d rather see in Space Jam 2 over Durant’s less vibrant personality ….
