5. The Rookie of the Year race

The Suns might not take home the Larry O’Brien trophy, but that doesn’t mean they won’t win any hardware this year. Deandre Ayton has one of the best chances of any rookie to win the Eddie Gottlieb trophy (bet you didn’t know it was called that).

Now, of course, there should be fierce competition. Marvin Bagley III should put up numbers for the worst team in the West. Collin Sexton may be given the keys to the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ offense sooner rather than later. Luka Doncic has already won seemingly every possible award available to him.

Of course, that is what will make this race so exciting. No one was thrilled when the candidates for the award in 2017 were 31 games of Joel Embiid, Malcolm Brogdon averaging 10.2 points per game, and a late-surging Dario Saric.

This year should be much more interesting, like last year was. Since the Phoenix Suns have a horse in the race this year, it should be that much more exciting for Suns fans.
