2. Average 4 or more assists per game

Porter has seen his assists per game average grow slightly, but he tends to become a statue when the ball in his hands. He’s a solid catch-and-shoot player and is a dangerous guy on the fast break, but when it comes to his playmaking ability, much of that is left on the shoulders of John Wall and Bradley Beal.

He averaged 2.0 assists per game last year, a career-high by his own standards. But to get his team over the hump, he’ll need to get that in the 4.0 or better range. Porter is certainly capable of passing the basketball and given the players around him like Wall, Beal and Dwight Howard, it shouldn’t be too difficult for him to set some scores up for the Wizards on offense.

Beal and Wall draw enough attention as is, so taking some of the heat off of them will pay dividends for Porter in the long run. As the Wizards enter unfamiliar territory with their veterans, they should be quick to remember they had one of the best starting fives in the NBA during the 2016-17 season. The only difference now is Marcin Gortat has been replaced with Dwight Howard. Passing the basketball would take this squad a long way in the team chemistry department. It’s up to Porter to come into his own in 2018-19.
