Sacramento Kings: 3 players most likely to be traded in 2018-19
3. Willie Cauley-Stein
Standing seven feet tall with length and incredible athleticism, Willie Cauley-Stein certainly has the potential to be one of the best defensive centers in the game, but after three underwhelming seasons in the league, one has to wonder just how high the ceiling is for the former No. 6 overall pick.
He averaged a career-high 12.8 points per game last season but shot just 50.6 percent from the field — not a great mark for a guy whose shots should come mostly around the bucket. He averaged 0.9 blocks per game which, given his physical gifts, is an extremely low number.
Currently up for an extension, Cauley-Stein could be in Sacramento long-term on what would likely be a fairly lucrative contract. Or maybe the Kings would rather test the market for WCS instead of committing big money to a fairly average player.
It’d be interesting to see what type of return a guy like Cauley-Stein could fetch given his limitations on both sides of the ball. Depending on the offers they receive, it may make more sense to take on another project instead of investing in one they already know to be not so great.
