3. Move off the ball

The key to being a great shooter is the ability to get open. In some cases, not necessarily even open, but get just enough space to get a shot off. One example of a player to learn a thing or two from would be the former Hawk, Kyle Korver.

Korver is one of, if not the best off-ball mover in the game. His ability to use screens and angles to his advantage is incredible. He is so often able to lose his man, allowing a wide open shot that is nearly automatic. Dorsey needs to learn how to navigate the court like Korver did during his time in Atlanta.

Movement away from the ball doesn’t only benefit you, but it helps the entire team. Once you lose your man a few times while running all over the court, the defense has to respect you either by switching or by having a defender stick to your hip like glue. In doing that, space is opened up on the floor for teammates to drive without having to deal with help defense coming off of you.

The combination of Korver and Al Horford was deadly during their time together in Atlanta. Horford would run Korver’s man towards the middle which would open up an easy shot attempt. Good movement around the baseline and perimeter for Dorsey would open up the middle of the lane for the high-flying John Collins to operate. That duo could be formidable if they figure out the correct spacing.
