Going into his second season in the league, Tyler Dorsey looks to have a breakout year with the Atlanta Hawks. Here are three goals for his 2018-19 season.

As a mid-second round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, there were modest expectations for Tyler Dorsey coming into the league. He managed to soar past those expectations with his solid play for the Atlanta Hawks. His expanded role was due in part to injures to Kent Bazemore.

Dorsey had a few major breakout performances in the second half of the season, which look to be a sign of things to come. One thing to remember is that confidence is key. That will prove extremely important going into a 2018-19 campaign that has very low expectations.

As a rookie, Dorsey averaged 7.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in 56 games. He was in the starting lineup for five of those games. One thing that stands out about his numbers was the fact that he shot at exactly the league-average from the 3-point line. Even the slightest improvement on that number would put him above many of his peers.

With a game often centered around perimeter play, there comes a need for improvement in other areas of his game in order to continue to be successful at the NBA level. Over half of his shots last season came from 3-point range. While that is the way the game is trending, there are not many players that make it in the league with just that one specialty. Even players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, who are exceptional long range shooters, have strengthened other parts of their games throughout their careers.

Bearing all this in mind, here are three goals for Tyler Dorsey’s second NBA season in 2018-19.
