With a lot of interesting talent on the roster, here are three Atlanta Hawks players that could surprise some people this year.

It’s getting hard to come up with clever ways to say that the Atlanta Hawks aren’t going to be good this year. Just go to Basketball Reference and look at their roster. Does it look like a team that’s primed to make a playoff run? Probably not.

Despite having a roster void of any recent All-Stars, the Hawks do have some interesting young pieces intermingling with some steady veterans, and that combination should make them a little more competitive this year. But who among this talented but unspectacular group will stand out?

Will one of the rookies take a step toward superstardom? Will one of the veterans surprise people and put up career-high numbers? Chances are that neither of these things will happen. There’s a reason why most publications and oddsmakers expect this team to finish near the bottom of the league yet again this year. They will experience plenty of inconsistency, especially from their young core.

With that being said, the potential is there. Here are some players that could live up to it with breakout seasons in 2018-19.

Honorable Mentions: John Collins, Kevin Huerter
