1. The West is extremely deep and competitive

It’s not the powerhouse teams like the Golden State Warriors or Houston Rockets that the Clippers need to worry about. It’s the teams near the bottom in terms of seeding like the Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans or the Minnesota Timberwolves.

All three of those teams had either a high functioning starting lineup containing a superstar or an extremely well-rounded overall team with depth. With the addition of LeBron James and other vetern presences, in addition to their young core, the Los Angeles Lakers will likely make a playoff run as well. So many teams improved or switched up their roster drastically this offseason and the West will likely be even more competitive this year.

As previously mentioned, the Clippers didn’t really get much better or much worse and will likely have even less of a chance this season to make the playoffs as a result.

As always, injuries and chemistry are a part of the game and some teams may be without their star or key pieces for the majority of the season, so it’s always possible that the Clippers could still sneak in as a low seed. It’s just not very probable.
