1. Become their undisputed sixth man

As mentioned earlier, it feels now like Orlando has a young core that it is keen to build around. But something it does not have, and which it has not had for years now, is a legitimate sixth man options off the bench.

This was never important when they were rebuilding, and although they’re far from a complete roster now it does feel like the emphasis has shifted somewhat to trying to win more games. In an open Eastern Conference why not?

This means they will need their veteran players to fill some of these rolls, and Ross seems like the ideal candidate to be a successful sixth man here.

Even better, he can combine his other two goals outlined here into being this type of player, handling the ball more with second units and piling up points against other bench players.

Ross filled this role during his time in Toronto, so it is something that would be familiar to him as well. Given that Fournier is making $17 million this season and is more complete offensively, it makes sense to have Ross back him up.

There is just one issue however, although it should hopefully be decided by the trade deadline, and that is that Vucevic also looks like he could fit this position very well. His ability to come in and put up impressive numbers quickly while the young players learn from him is hard to ignore.

But with the Magic going in a different direction and Vucevic in the final year of his current deal (and making less than $13 million), he appears a moveable asset that would net Orlando some returns while freeing up minutes for younger players and that sixth man role for Ross.

Only time will tell if Ross can achieve any of the above, and indeed if he can’t stay healthy then getting back onto the court will become the one and only goal for next season. Achieve all of the above though, and he’s a prime candidate to be Orlando’s Most Improved Player of the year.
