3. Lance Thomas
Since being named head coach of the team, David Fizdale has laid out some plans on how he wants to do things. He is looking for some tough-nosed defensive players. One of the players Fizdale has been high on is Lance Thomas.
When talking to the New York Daily News, Fizdale compared Thomas to the Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green. No one is going to mistaken Thomas for Green, but Fizdale compared the two based on their versatility, especially on defense.
Fizdale provided some hyperbole saying the offense can be run through Thomas in a similar fashion to Green. While that is unlikely, Thomas is a solid veteran to have.
Thomas will provide leadership at the wing position and be someone young players can learn from. Kevin Knox and Mario Hezonja will benefit the most from Thomas being around given their expected play at both forward spots.
However, if teams come calling about the Brooklyn native, the Knicks should listen.
Thomas would be a great addition to a contending team as a stretch-combo forward. He can defend multiple positions and has also turned himself into a good 3-point shooter, knocking down 41 percent of his attempts with the Knicks.
Thomas would be an excellent addition to a team as a fourth forward that can fill in at either small forward or power forward, providing solid defense and 3-point shooting
