MVP: Buddy Hield

When the Kings traded for Buddy Hield in February of 2017, sources close to owner Vivek Ranadive claimed he thought the sweet-shooting 2-guard had Stephen Curry-like potential.

Despite the absurdity of such a thought process, Hield did hit 3.9 3-pointers a game en route to averaging 25.0 points a night during his last season at the University of Oklahoma, an indicator of at least a nano fragment of similarities between the two.

Hield averaged just 13.5 points last season on a team that won just 27 games. To have this discussion in and of itself is ridiculous, but Hield will need to elevate both his play and Sacramento’s win totals tremendously to be considered a possible MVP candidate.

Maybe Vivek saw something none of us did, and this will finally be the year Hield shows it to the world.

In reality, though, he’ll likely put up okay numbers on a bottom-level team, far away from even the slightest of consideration for the MVP award.
