1. Earn a starting spot in the rotation
Wilson Chandler in the starting lineup for the Sixers isn’t a given for the 2018-19 season. Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, J.J. Redick, Robert Covington and Dario Saric is one way for head coach Brett Brown to go, but during the second round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs, they went away from this rotation. Covington was removed in favor of T.J. McConnell last year by the end of things, producing just 6.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the series.
Covington shot just 25 percent from the floor and 26.8 percent from behind the arc against a stifling Boston Celtics squad. When things got tight, there was nobody other than Joel Embiid or J.J. Redick to rely on for offense. Despite being an All-Defensive First Team selection, Covington may be better suited for an off the bench role, which wouldn’t force him to produce on offense.
Chandler is a savvy veteran and a better two-way option in the East. He’s versatile enough to play the off-guard and either forward position. He could pay dividends for the Philadelphia 76ers in the starting rotation, especially with the way they play small-ball.
Robert Covington struggled to produce on the offensive end during the playoffs. Chandler could end up being the wild card they need to get over the hump, so his goal should be to win the starting job at the 3.
