2. DeAndre Jordan

After leaving the Mavericks high and dry back in 2015, Dallas was finally able to convince DeAndre Jordan to sign on the dotted line on a one-year deal worth $22.9 million.

The reason DJ went with a shorter deal is because of the money that will be available in the summer of 2019, where more teams will have cap space to fill, including the Mavericks.

Taking into account his age — he turned 30 on July 21 — on a body that’s heavily reliant on athletic gifts to excel at both ends, strapping oneself to Jordan for big, long-term money doesn’t seem so appealing despite his previous accomplishments.

This is where a possible trade comes in, as there are teams that could certainly use the services of a DeAndre Jordan even on a one-year rental, or ones looking to acquire cap flexibility for the coming summers and would take Jordan’s contract in exchange for a package of goods.

There is, of course, the possibility DJ is looking to play elsewhere when the time comes, which would certainly push the Mavericks to trade him before the deadline passes.

If he’s looking to make Dallas his home for the foreseeable future, though, it might make sense for the Mavs to see what they could get in a possible trade so they aren’t pressured to strap themselves to a player whose best days are likely behind him.
