Arguably the most important piece for the Boston Celtics is Al Horford. With that in mind, here are three goals for the 2018-19 NBA season.

The Boston Celtics are one of the most talented teams in the NBA. There’s a point to be made that Al Horford might be the most important player on that roster. He might not be the youngest or have the most talent, but the things he does on the court are so important to the team’s success.

Horford’s stats are not the best on the team either, but what he does on the defensive end and in off-ball situations is important. He will be entering his 12th season in the NBA and his third with Boston. During the 2017-18 season, he averaged 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.1 blocks and 0.6 steals per game.

If someone were to look at his stats, they might not figure that this player would be one of the top centers in the league. When thinking about centers who dominate the league now, it’s common to see over 20 points and 10 rebounds a night.

While he might not have the sexiest stats, his importance is big. He’s never once averaged over 20 points in his career, but an underrated asset to have as a big is the ability to pass. That was noticeable when he averaged 4.7 assists last season, and 5.0 per game the year before that.

The Celtics are a young team, which means that Horford needs to take on a leadership role. He’s 32 years old and that makes him the oldest on the team. He also has the most experience and that will go a long way for Boston this upcoming season. This year could play out to be a championship run as well.
