2. Bob Myers, Golden State Warriors
This is the boring, but probably correct choice. The Golden State Warriors were already the biggest winners of the summer once they re-signed Kevin Durant, but landing DeMarcus Cousins — arguably the best center in the game — for the taxpayer mid-level exception of $5.3 million is just absurdly unfair.
The problem here is Warriors fatigue is very real. The Dubs have already built an unassailable juggernaut, but how much praise do they deserve for keeping it intact and adding new upgrades along the way? Outfitting the Death Star with a flamethrower technically does make it more powerful, but if it could already destroy entire planets, does the architect really need another trophy on his mantle for the latest unnecessary addition?
The Warriors have been a self-sustaining title contender for almost half a decade now, so it’s no surprise good players want to stay there or join the party. Still, after re-signing KD, landing Boogie, drafting Jacob Evans and picking up Jonas Jerebko for practically nothing, Bob Myers had a better summer than any GM in the league. He probably just won’t get credit for it.
