9. Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors

Like D’Antoni, Steve Kerr will probably be overlooked in the Coach of the Year conversation. Even though he’s only won the award once, voter fatigue is a real thing with the Golden State Warriors, especially since he just won in 2015-16. Plus, how can you really cast your vote for a guy who has Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and now DeMarcus Cousins at his disposal?

That sheer advantage in talent will discourage voters from choosing Kerr on their ballots, but there’s something to be said for being able to manage all that talent. Going through four consecutive runs to the Finals is tiring, both physically and mentally, and yet the Dubs continue to dominate in the win column, even when they coast through the regular season.

That’s because of the culture Kerr has established in Oakland, which is the driving force behind everyone buying in and winning championships. However, because they’re only going about 75-80 percent during the regular season, they won’t post the gaudy win totals needed to force the voters’ hands. Overall, it’s hard to reward a guy for the groundwork he laid four years ago.
