1. Spencer Dinwiddie

This might come off as a hot take to some Nets fans, but the same arguments I’ve previously outlined for jettisoning Dinwiddie remain today.

He’s a poor shooter, lackluster defender and an unfavorable fit with Russell. The third point is the most crucial, because Russell is the most upside-laden player on the team. He’s the closest thing the Nets have to a franchise guy. There’s little sense in compromising his development by pairing him with a non-shooter in the backcourt.

As previously mentioned, Dinwiddie is a free agent next summer. Getting value for him ASAP is smarter than banking on the free agent market to be thin enough for his retention.

Teams like the Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns are in desperate need of point guard help. Finagling a first round pick from either of them might not be difficult, especially not from Phoenix, a team with serious intentions to make a playoff push.

Dinwiddie is a good player who has revived his career in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, as of now, his game is just not a good fit in Kenny Atkinson’s system.
