Brooklyn Nets: 3 players most likely to be traded in 2018-19
By Alec Liebsch
Although the Brooklyn Nets have a pretty balanced roster, opportunities for big-picture improvements could arise throughout the upcoming season. Here are the three players most likely to be dealt for the sake of the future.
You’ve been hearing it all summer. From deranged Spencer Dinwiddie fanatics to well-known NBA pundits, everyone is in penciling the Brooklyn Nets in for a big splash next offseason. With an ability to easily carve out two max contract slots, general manager Sean Marks and the gang can make quite the splash in the summer of 2019.
Not only is it a pivotal summer for obtaining talent, but it’s imperative for retaining homegrown talent too. Dinwiddie, D’Angelo Russell and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, three players who have developed in Brooklyn, will all hit the market next July, with the latter two being restricted free agents. The 2018-19 season will be their auditions to the Nets and the rest of the NBA alike.
In total, Brooklyn will see seven players hit the market after this coming season. Who is worth retaining, and which quality free agents would fit best with said players, will be two clouds hovering over Nets brass’ heads throughout the season.
As one would expect, they will also be the driving forces for every forthcoming transaction. Barring extremely favorable or unfavorable outcomes (i.e. either skyrocketing into the thick of the playoff picture or bottoming out completely due to injuries), the main focus will be a setup for next summer.
All this narrows down the most popular trade candidates, should there be any, to about three. Arguments could be made for all 15 members of the team, but these three are in the grouping of most likely.
