3. Alec Burks

Alec Burks is an original member of the Core Four in Utah. Drafted 12th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, Burks, Gordon Hayward, Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors were expected to carry the Jazz to playoff success.

Burks and Favors are the only members of the group left on the roster, and the former’s time in Utah could be limited. He has been mentioned in trade rumors in the past, and this season could be the year the Jazz finally pull the trigger.

One of the reasons he hasn’t been traded in the past is his hefty contract. Though the $11.2 million he’s owed this season is by no means astronomical by NBA standards, his inconsistent production and injuries have scared potential suitors from committing to him.

However, he made himself more enticing with his performance in the playoffs last season. Burks thrived offensively, and was arguably the best player off the bench. Making 45 percent of his shots from beyond the arc, his 3-point percentage was nearly 10 points higher than his career average.

He is also on an expiring contract, and could be attractive to teams rebuilding and willing to absorb his contract. Though Burks can be explosive at points throughout the season, it’s becoming clear he doesn’t fit the system in Utah. It seems unlikely management will be willing to re-sign him next summer, and could look to move him prior to the trade deadline instead of losing him for nothing.
