Assessing the options

Out of the eight guards previously mentioned on the Clippers’ roster, a few of them can be immediately eliminated. Thornwell and Evans are decent, but they’re not necessarily any better or younger than the point guards already on the Phoenix Suns’ roster, so there’s no need to trade for them.

Gilgeous-Alexander and Robinson are rookies, just like De’Anthony Melton and Elie Okobo. They should be better, and could be starters someday. They would theoretically be players that could fit well on the Suns.

Still, they’re rookies, so they’re probably not going to be great this year. Additionally, the Clippers likely view the tandem as their starting backcourt of the future, so they’d ask for too high a price if they were even to consider moving them this early on.

Avery Bradley is a player who, on paper, makes a lot of sense. However, he just signed his contract and can’t be traded until Jan. 15. Lou Williams is not a perfect fit. He is an above-average sixth man, and he’s a score-first player.

That’s not what the Suns need at the point guard slot. His defense alongside Booker would also probably make for a lot of easy layups, so he’s out of the running.

That only leaves two options: Milos Teodosic and Pat Beverley. Both have their pros and cons, but only one can be the final choice.
