The Detroit Pistons added Zaza Pachulia this offseason to give them a veteran presence while increasing their frontcourt depth.

Despite the NBA continuing to move toward smaller and smaller lineups, the Detroit Pistons continue to double down on their bigs. This offseason, they added former Golden State Warriors center Zaza Pachulia to give them additional depth.

While Andre Drummond will still be the unquestioned star at center, Pachulia gives the team something that Drummond lacks. He’s able to provide some offense from the center spot, other than just rim-rolling and secondary playmaking.

Besides this offense, he gives the team an additional body to soak up minutes at the center spot. Drummond has done well to avoid injuries to this point in his career, but anything is possible in this league. While Pachulia does not play at the same level as Drummond, he still represents a decent veteran presence at the position. The 2018-19 season is not one that he’s looking to develop for the future as he heads into his 16th season, but it’s still important.

Dwane Casey is looking to develop his young talent while keeping the Pistons competitive in the Eastern Conference. Pachulia came from a winning culture in Golden State, and, while he wasn’t a major contributor down the stretch of last season, he still knows the type of mindset it takes to win. He, Casey and Jose Calderon are here to help make the Motor City competitive again, and Pachulia will have a few goals to help them get there.
