After trading for De’Anthony Melton, the Phoenix Suns have added another second round rookie point guard. Here are three goals for his first NBA season.

Heading into the offseason, center and point guard were the two biggest positions of need for the Phoenix Suns. They addressed the center spot with their first move of the summer, drafting Deandre Ayton first overall. However, after the draft, free agency and a couple of trades, point guard remains an even bigger issue than it was before the summer began.

While the Suns drafted point guard Elie Okobo with the 31st overall pick in the draft and traded for De’Anthony Melton last week, they don’t really have a proven commodity at the 1 after including Brandon Knight in the Melton deal.

According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, the team will continue to pursue deals for an established point guard before the start of the season. For the time being though, the starting job is up for grabs, and the second round rookie out of USC has as good a chance as anyone on the roster right now.

Whether a new arrival changes the depth chart or not, Melton heads into his first NBA season with the opportunity to earn substantial minutes, even if he hasn’t officially been signed yet and can only be signed to a two-year rookie deal.

Bearing all that in mind, here are three goals for De’Anthony Melton’s rookie season with the Phoenix Suns.
