Most Improved Player: Jonathan Isaac

Isaac winning MIP this season could be the one that hits. If he can sustain his play from this year’s NBA Summer League, he is going to be a problem for teams this season. He looks to be much improved from his injury-laded rookie season and will have all the opportunity in the world to showcase his talents.

After only playing in 27 games last season, Isaac averaged 5.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 19.8 minutes per game. His shooting struggled as well, with .379/.348/.760 splits. To go along with the inconsistent play, Isaac suffered a litany of right ankle injuries and was in and out of the lineup all season. As Orlando’s sixth pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, this rookie production was disappointing and a big factor in the Magic’s worst record since the 2014-15 season.

This season, however, looks to be very different for Isaac. All signs are pointing to him being a major part of the team and showing a huge leap from year one to two.

In Summer League, Isaac flashed the potential that the Magic saw out of college. He is nearly 7’0” but can play the 3 and 4. He showed an ability to shoot 3s, pull-ups, fadeaways and get to the basket with ease.

He also showed off some impressive defensive play as his 7’1” wingspan and quick feet allow for him to guard 2-5 and block a ton of shots. Pairing him with Bamba on that end will be exciting to watch this season.

Isaac will be a focal point on both ends this season and could make the jump necessary to win an award like this. He could also be the one to break the Magic’s post-Dwight curse and bring them back to prominence. Look for plenty of blocks and plenty of athletic plays from Isaac this upcoming season.
