Los Angeles Lakers: 3 goals for Lonzo Ball in 2018-19
1. Develop a bond with LeBron James
Realistically, Ball’s career trajectory depends largely on how LeBron and him jell in 2018-19. With plenty of front office pull, James can easily convince Magic Johnson to trade away the pass-first point guard if he doesn’t pan out. We saw the type of sway the King can have when it comes to personnel decisions during the his days with the Cleveland Cavaliers .
That’s why it’ll be imperative for Ball to develop some serious chemistry with James.
It’s not just about staying in Los Angeles, though. Lonzo’s career would greatly benefit from establishing a strong bond between him and James. Not only does having one of the game’s all-time greats on your side open doors, but it’ll also mean improved play on the court.
If James trusts Ball, he’ll feel confident kicking out to him for open looks. If there’s a rock-solid relationship there, LeBron will go out of his way to help the youngster grow and thrive. It’s easy to see the benefits of being on the his good side, and Ball knows it.
So get to it, kid. Drown out the sound of your human-megaphone father and work your butt off. James knows as much as anyone what it means to strive for something. If he sees the drive in Ball that he knows is within himself, he’s bound to take the sophomore guard under his wing. When that happens, a world of opportunities will open up.
Plus, Ball has to play with James for at least a couple more years — assuming he doesn’t get traded. Might as well make it enjoyable by endearing himself with the King.
