2. Improve offensive skill-set

Brown demonstrated flashes of offensive potential throughout Summer League, but his inefficiencies are still highly noticeable. The areas of the game he struggled with in college followed him to the professional exhibitions over the summer.

He averaged less than 15 points per 40 minutes in Miami across his two seasons, and had difficulties creating his own shot. He was 0-for-7 in isolation situations last year. His 41.5 percent shooting from the field and 26.7 percent shooting from 3-point range also left much to be desired.

Brown needs to become more of a shooting threat to eventually make the Pistons’ rotation. He made only 58.5 percent of his shots at the basket as a sophomore, which was a regression from the 62.3 percent he made his freshman year. Additionally, he converted only 30.4 percent of his 2-point jump shots last season.

He could build upon the improvements he made at the charity stripe this summer. Brown was a mediocre free throw shooter in college, making 70.2 percent of his attempts. However, he nailed 25-of-28 attempts in Summer League, or 89.3 percent of his shots.

Occasionally in Miami, he would have a game where he was supremely confident and explosive offensively. The problem is it only happened every so often. If he can improve his outside shot and score consistently, he could be valuable sixth man in Detroit’s rotation.
