Jacob Evans will need to be just such a player in order to be relied upon by this team. In college, Evans shot 37.7 percent from beyond the arc on a Cincinnati team where he was often forced to generate shots himself. On the Warriors, he will simply be finishing the plays created by superstar teammates.
As a team, the Warriors shot 39.1 percent from deep last year, first in the NBA. Evans has the shooting chops to step in and be a part of that dominant efficiency. Yet the Evans who showed up in July had an uncertain shot, something he will need to correct prior to the season starting.
With Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston all key parts of the rotation — not to mention the team’s centers — there is a need for a reliable shooter off the bench, especially with Nick Young not being retained. Evans has the potential to be that player, and his first goal for the 2018-19 NBA season is to hit shots from outside.
