The Minnesota Timberwolves may need to make some trades in 2018-19 to fix an expensive roster at odds with itself.

Despite breaking a 13-year playoff drought last year, the 2017-18 Minnesota Timberwolves season was tumultuous, to say the least. The players didn’t get along well, Tom Thibodeau’s style made the season feel like a chore, and the team needed a win over the Nuggets on the last day of the regular season to creep into the playoffs.

The situation for 2018-19 doesn’t look much better after a quiet offseason. Minnesota has two All-NBA-caliber players and former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear path to a championship for the franchise.

With Karl-Anthony Towns’ extension on the horizon and Jimmy Butler’s impending free agency after this season, Minnesota is looking at a historic luxury tax bill if it keeps this core together. If they don’t or can’t keep this core together, who knows what will happen to a team that just a few years ago was brimming with potential?

Here are the three most likely Wolves to be traded during the upcoming season, whether it’s to create cap space or embrace a new long-term direction.
