2. Increase his 3-point percentage

Leuer’s career 3-point percentage rests at about 33.5 percent. However, that number is greatly overinflated by a couple seasons of small sample sizes. Coming off the bench this season, he won’t be a sharpshooter or hoisting the same number of shots as Phoenix Suns marksman Ryan Anderson, but he needs to be a threat from outside. If he can replicate close to his numbers from 2015-16 with the Suns, that would be the ceiling for this season.

The more likely scenario is that he shoots somewhere in the range of 35 percent from distance. While this is not sharpshooter territory, it’s a consistent enough threat to create additional spacing. Some lineups could feature him at center with four guards and wings around him. His ability to pick-and-pop would be something that not all bigs are capable of. He has the shooting in him, but he needs to present it this season.

Volume usually leads to a decrease in percentage. That was most evident between 2015-16 and 2016-17 for Leuer. On an additional 57 3-point attempts, his percentage decreased from 38.2 to 29.3 percent. Leuer has been inconsistent with his shooting moving through his entire career. As he’s moving into his 30s, he’s going to have to increase that consistency. If he doesn’t, his market will be much more barren than he would like.
