Memphis Grizzlies: 3 big questions heading into 2018-19 NBA season
2. Is MarShon Brooks for real?
One of the more interesting developments toward the end of the 2018 regular season was the play of MarShon Brooks. A former member of the All-Rookie Second-Team, Brooks bounced around the league for a few seasons before ending up overseas in both Italy and China.
Given the injuries that infected their roster up and down, and with a playoff berth incredibly far out of reach, the Grizzlies decided to give Brooks a chance over the final two weeks of the season, and he certainly took advantage of the opportunity.
In seven games with Memphis, Brooks averaged 20.1 points per game on 50 percent shooting, earning a spot in the league in the form of a two-year deal with the Grizzlies.
Seven games may be considered to small a sample size to legitimately evaluate Brooks’ talent, especially when those games had little to no importance. But nobody averages those numbers by accident over any stretch, a signal of his possible value on the court.
Where Brooks could thrive is as a sixth man, affording him plenty of touches with the opportunity to improve a Grizzlies bench unit that ranked near the middle of the pack in 2018.
He certainly worked hard to return to the NBA, but now the real work starts, and with that comes the chance to see what MarShon Brooks is truly capable of.
