Rookie of the Year: Jacob Evans

OK, obviously it’s a long shot that the Warriors will have the Rookie of the Year winner on their team. However, the point of this article is to name the best candidate that Golden State has to offer for each award.

So, let’s look into what would need to happen for Jacob Evans to end the season as the best rookie in the draft.

First, let’s learn a little about his background. Evans played three seasons in college for the Cincinnati Bearcats. During his collegiate career, he averaged 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Evans was then drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the 28th pick in the 2018 NBA draft.

Entering the NBA, he is expected to become a 3-and-D wing player. This type of player is the perfect fit for the Warriors as he will be able to defend opposing teams and knock down open 3-pointers.

His stroke from beyond the arc can be a bit inconsistent, but his athletic ability will keep him engaged on the defensive end.

Now, if he wants any chance of winning the Rookie of the Year award, he’s going to need some luck on his side. Let’s say that Stephen Curry, Klay Thompon and Kevin Durant all have freak accidents in practice in which all three of them are injured and will be out for the entire season.

This would give Evans a chance to play a large number of minutes. If he could somehow help the Warriors win enough games to make the playoffs without three of their main stars, he could earn some votes for the award. It’s a longshot, but nothing is impossible.
