NBA: Ranking all 30 starting centers for 2018-19
21. Jarrett Allen, Brooklyn Nets
After turning a few heads during his rookie year, Jarrett Allen is poised for another eye-opening season in 2018-19. The starting job at center should be his, with no one on the roster other than Ed Davis to challenge him for minutes.
The Brooklyn Nets probably won’t be very good again this season, but Allen should be able to build on the 8.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game he compiled last year. He’s already an efficient pick-and-roll weapon and finisher around the rim, shooting 58.9 percent from the field.
He’s not a 3-point threat yet, but that stretch-5 potential is there. If Allen can elevate his game as a defender and rebounder, he could be one of the most notable breakout players of the upcoming campaign.
