3. Maintain 3-point numbers from 2017-18

Despite not being the sexiest of goals, this one may be the most integral for a successful Boston Celtics season. From a multitude of angles, what Brown did last year from deep was impressive. Just how efficient was he?

Spacing is a major part of head coach Brad Stevens’ offensive strategy. Playmakers like Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier become more effective when the court opens up for them. Defending Irving is hard enough, having a deadly 3-point shooter in the corner makes it an even more difficult task. Thankfully for the Celtics, Brown hit 42.6 percent of his corner triples last year, which accounted for 37.6 percent of his total 3-point attempts.

That is a decent amount of time to be spending in the corner awaiting 3-point opportunities. It was time well spent, however. As Gordon Hayward returns, he may steal touches from Brown, making the corner a logical destination for the him. Maintaining these percentages will improve what was already a well-tuned Boston offense.

Hayward’s playmaking ability will impact Brown in another way as well. When Hayward has the ball in his hands, Brown can be effective running off screens. NBA.com had Brown shooting 39.7 percent from beyond the arc on catch-and-shoot chances in 2017-18. He may be seeing more floppy action that results in these types of plays, so keeping this percentage up will be critical.
