Re-signing Davis Bertans

The San Antonio Spurs re-signed sharpshooter Davis Bertans to a two-year, $14.5 million contract. This was perhaps their most questionable offseason move, as Bertans has been largely irrelevant for them so far.

In two seasons with the Spurs, Bertans has averaged 5.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists while playing just 13.2 minutes per game. He is a good defender and does a good job stretching the floor with his 3-point shooting, but $7 million per year is just too much for someone who rarely sees more than 15 minutes per game.

To put it in perspective: Bertans is currently making more than DeMarcus Cousins. (Then again, there are a lot of players you could say that about.) Either way, this is a reach for the Spurs and unless they start giving Bertans more minutes it will prove to be one of their only offseason mistakes.
