5. Kevin Love, Cleveland Cavaliers

Anytime a team loses the best player in basketball, it wasn’t a good summer. However, this second post-LeBron James era shouldn’t be as depressing as the first, mostly because of the intrigue Kevin Love will conjure up as he returns to the role of franchise star.

Will he put up numbers like his Minnesota Timberwolves days, when he posted 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in a similar situation as the team’s lone gunslinger? Will he still look like the third fiddle he became? And most importantly, will he be able to keep the Cleveland Cavaliers relevant in the playoff picture?

Remember, that’s something he was unable to do with the Wolves, no matter his numbers. The Eastern Conference is weaker, but either way, it’ll be fascinating to see how much a 29-year-old Kevin Love can improve on last year’s 17.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game on 41.5 percent shooting from deep. We’re betting he raises more than a few eyebrows this season.
