NBA: Ranking all 30 starting power forwards for 2018-19
14. Derrick Favors, Utah Jazz
Maybe this is a tad high for a guy boasting mundane averages of 12.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game from last season. Derrick Favors hasn’t been on the All-Star track since 2015-16, due in part to injury problems and also because of the rise of Rudy Gobert.
Still, the Utah Jazz don’t really need him to be their dominant interior scorer or go-to defender. He’s more than capable alongside the Stifle Tower, and though the team’s defense was better with him off the court, he’s a capable two-way player who’s still effective despite his lack of perimeter range.
Favors is one of those players whose impact doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet, but he still managed a career-high 56.3 percent conversion rate from the field last year. As he enters yet another contract year, it remains to be seen whether his production can see another uptick, or whether this 27-year-old’s role has basically reached its ceiling in Salt Lake City — especially without that much-needed 3-point stroke still missing from his game.
