Step 1: Find Robin Lopez a new home

Someone has to go. Many Chicago Bulls fans would love to see Asik or Felicio get shipped off. This does not look possible. Asik has a player option for $11.9 million for the 2019-20 season. What team would want that contract? Felicio is in an even worse cap situation. The Brazilian center is on the books until the 2021-22 season.

Lopez is a different story, however. As mentioned earlier, he’s on a valuable expiring contract. Next year’s offseason is loaded with star free agents. Could a team that wants to be in the running for one of those players use Lopez’s contract? Teams such as the New York Knicks and Miami Heat could relish a chance to land this expiring money.

Shopping Lopez should be easy. Besides his contract, he would immediately bring toughness to any teams he lands on. Although he may be overrated in terms of his basketball IQ and rim protection, Lopez can play serviceable minutes on either contending or rebuilding teams.

What would be gained by his absence? Sure, Lopez will be missed by diehard fans. But these same fans will move on quickly, especially once they see their other frontcourt players perform. It is those very players that compose step two for solving this problem.
