Washington Wizards: 3 big questions heading into 2018-19 NBA season

The Washington Wizards finished the 2017-18 season licking their wounds. By the time they fell in the postseason, it seemed like things needed to change.

The Washington Wizards had a busy 2018 offseason, which was expected after their eighth place finish in the Eastern Conference during the regular season. They didn’t waste much time, trading big man Marcin Gortat. Gortat turned in only 8.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season and it seemed he wasn’t getting along with All-Star point guard John Wall.

Now, the roster has a ton of new faces as the Wizards didn’t hesitate to acquire more backcourt depth to help off the bench. Washington’s bench was drastically improved from 2016-17, but they still lacked a quality backup to John Wall. That should change with the arrival of Austin Rivers via the Gortat trade.

Austin Rivers wasn’t the only key addition either, as Dwight Howard signed with the Washington Wizards after just one season with the Charlotte Hornets. Howard seemed to ruin his welcome with his style of play, but John Wall and Bradley Beal are probably the best backcourt he’s played with since his Orlando Magic days. Howard will join veteran Jeff Green on the roster, looking to change the outcome this upcoming season.
