For the Sacramento Kings, wins and losses won’t matter in 2018-19, but the team can still learn about and build toward a better team in the future.

Perhaps the most important question for every NBA franchise every year is “Will they be good?” That is, after all, the object of the game. Unequivocally, the 2018-19 Sacramento Kings will not.

Nonetheless, secondary questions remain, because NBA life is not entirely meaningless for the 25-plus franchises lacking legitimate title aspirations this coming season.

Instead, the Kings’ biggest questions surround the future. The Kings do not have a Ben Simmons, Jayson Tatum or Donovan Mitchell. They do not have that clear face of the future who enables you to endure 55-loss seasons but remain hopeful. The Kings will not be adding that player in the 2019 NBA Draft either, because the team is already out its first round pick thanks to a swindling at the hands of Sam Hinkie.

For the Kings, everything of consequence comes down to the young players on the roster today. The 2018-19 season will revolve around developing them and learning who they are. With those pursuits come serious questions.
