Portland Trail Blazers: 3 goals for CJ McCollum in 2018-19
The Portland Trail Blazers need guard CJ McCollum to reach a new level this season. What goals could he work towards to make that happen in 2018-19?
Another season is in the books for Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard and podcaster CJ McCollum. It was a fine year, as he averaged 21.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He also shot 44.3 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from 3-point range and 83.6 percent from the free throw line.
Despite the team result, McCollum also played well during the Blazers’ first round playoff series against the New Orleans Pelicans. He averaged 25.3 points, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game in four postseason matchups.
McCollum accomplished those playoff averages while shooting 51.9 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from beyond the arc and 76.9 percent from the line. He was the team’s best player as lead guard Damian Lillard struggled mightily throughout the series.
Despite his admirable 2017-18 campaign, his averages were eerily similar to the two seasons before it. As CJ McCollum enters his sixth NBA season and the Western Conference has become even more competitive, the Blazers need more than just the same old play out of him in 2018-19.
As the new NBA season approaches, what are three goals CJ McCollum could seek to accomplish in 2018-19?
