NBA: Ranking all 30 starting shooting guards for 2018-19
4. Victor Oladipo, Indiana Pacers
This may seem like an overreaction to one good year, but it’s not an exaggeration to say Victor Oladipo was one of the best guards in the entire association last year, and he more than earned his first All-Star appearance and Third Team All-NBA selection.
Averaging 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.4 steals per game, Oladipo was a two-way terror for the pleasant surprise of the season, a 48-win Indiana Pacers team. He shot 37.1 percent from 3-point range, provided late-game heroics time and time again and nearly led his plucky squad past LeBron James in an intense seven-game playoff series in the first round.
Basically, Oladipo looked like the franchise star he was pegged to be after being drafted second overall back in 2013. It took him a few years to find his confidence and the right situation, but at only 26 years old, he and the Pacers should be able to build on their unforgettable season and seriously challenge for a top-four seed in the East.
