20. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Some might see this as too high for an unproven rookie that’s been compared (only by the uninformed) to Darko Milicic and other overseas draft busts. Some might see this as too low for an NBA-ready prospect who dominated in Europe at the tender age of 18 and will now join an ideal situation for his talents.

This ranking tries to balance “Luka Doncic the phenom” with “Luka Doncic the rookie,” since there’s an adjustment process for everyone in their first year in the league. Still, it’s hard not to be excited about Wonder Boy’s fit under Rick Carlisle, especially with Dennis Smith Jr. as his backcourt mate and DeAndre Jordan as a pick-and-roll partner and regular lob target.

After falling to No. 3 in the draft, Doncic won’t have as much pressure on him to perform, so considering his fit with the Dallas Mavericks and the hearty opportunities he’ll get, don’t be surprised to see this Rookie of the Year candidate wind up even higher than this optimistic ranking.
