Chicago Bulls: Complete 2018 offseason grades
Bulls part ways with Jerian Grant
With Kris Dunn cementing his case as the starting point guard, the Bulls ended last season with two other players vying for minutes at the backup spot. Initially, it appeared that it would be a toss-up between Cameron Payne and Jerian Grant.
After all, Grant’s numbers (8.4 points, 4.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds per contest) were on par with Payne’s production (8.8 points, 4.5 assists and 2.8 rebounds per contest). However, executive vice president John Paxson put the mystery to bed when he stated that the team felt good about Payne being the team’s backup point guard going into next season.
Bearing that in mind, it was only a matter of time before Grant and the Bulls parted ways. That time came a week into the free agency period when the Bulls sent Grant to the Orlando Magic as part of a three-team trade that included the Charlotte Hornets.
In return for Grant, the Bulls acquired Julyan Stone, who they waived a week later as part of a series of moves that helped paved the way for them to sign Jabari Parker to a two-year deal (more on that in a bit).
Of all the moves the Bulls have made during the offseason, unloading Grant will be nothing more than a blip on the radar when it’s all said and done.
