3. Increase trips to the free throw line

While Olynyk’s most valuable trait is his ability to spread the floor as a seven-footer and stretch the defense, this doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of hurting the opposition in other ways.

Last season, Olynyk shot at a 73.4 percent clip within five feet of the rim. Of all players in the league who averaged at least 2.5 attempts per game from this range, Olynyk’s return ranked sixth overall. Despite this impressive return, Olynyk averaged just 2.3 free throw attempts per game, converting at a 77 percent clip.

While Olynyk more than possesses the ability to take the ball to the hole and finish, he ranked just eighth on the Heat with 3.6 drives per game. However, as can be seen from the following clips, he certainly has the tools to consistently finish inside:

Overall, Olynyk last season had 23 games in which he didn’t attempt a single free throw. Given his ability to put the ball on the floor against larger opponents, this is certainly an area both the Heat and Olynyk should add to his repertoire on a more consistent basis.
