Boston Celtics: Complete 2018 offseason grades
By Kane Pitman
Overall
As mentioned earlier, the Celtics could have decided to gut their core in an attempt to rush their chase for an NBA championship. In declining to acquire James or Leonard, they have given the clearest indication yet that they believe they are on the brink of achieving that goal.
In resisting a major splash and bringing Baynes and Smart back, the Celtics have ensured continuity in the locker room, and will feel confident they can hit the ground running early in the season, starting with the first game of the season against the Sixers on Oct. 16.
On top of retaining key rotation pieces, the Celtics added a solid veteran depth piece and snatched a potential steal late in the first round. Boston has done well to avoid tinkering with a winning formula and will carry its undeniable chemistry and camaraderie into a 2018-19 season full of possibility and opportunity.
Aron Baynes announced there was unfinished business in Boston after a 2017-18 season that fell just short of the ultimate goal. After this offseason, the Celtics now get another chance to finish the job.
Final Grade: B+
