Atlanta Hawks: 3 goals for Taurean Waller-Prince in 2018-19
2. Space the floor
Prince’s primary job will be to space the floor for Atlanta’s young guards. Fortunately for the Hawks, he does that job well.
Prince’s 38.5 percent shooting clip from downtown is great overall — along with his healthy catch-and-shoot numbers — but he especially excels from the corners (47.3 percent), off of screens (1.01 PPP), and while holding the ball for less than two seconds (40.8 percent).
Having a guy that demands a defense’s attention around the arch is vital to the success of a rookie point guard who will be expected to produce right away and a veteran floor general who’s looking to bounce back from season-ending knee injury. It will also clear the lanes for the likes of John Collins, Alex Len and Dewayne Dedmon.
In a league where six of the 10 most efficient 3-point shooting teams made the playoffs, and seven of them finished with a winning record, it’s safe to say that the modern NBA team needs to be deadly from long range to reach the top of the standings. Prince will help the Hawks on that front for years to come.
