Atlanta Hawks: 3 goals for Taurean Waller-Prince in 2018-19
3. Improve as a ball-handler
Coming into the league, many people questioned Prince’s ability to create for himself and others. So far, he has proven those critics correct.
While he was very effective as a stand-still specialist (42.1 percent on catch-and-shoot 3s), he wasn’t as good when tasked with putting the ball on the floor. He averaged a paltry 0.63 points per possession on pick-and-rolls last year, which was one of the worst marks in the association.
To make matters worse, his effective field goal percentage when going from 0-2 dribbles went from 62.2 to 41.6 percent, although that number jumped to 51.4 percent when he dribbled between 3-6 times.
With the likes of Jeremy Lin, Trae Young and Kevin Huerter on the roster, chances are that the Hawks won’t need Prince to transform into James Harden. If he can show a little bit of improvement as a ball-handler though, he could help alleviate some of the pressure on the youngsters.
