3. What is the point guard rotation?

Such a question would’ve been laughable only a year ago, but as the NBA has shown us, a lot can happen over the course of 365 days.

In his inaugural season in Brooklyn, D’Angelo Russell played well with numbers of 15.5 points and 5.5 assists pre game, but knee surgery limited him to just 48 games last season.

Then there’s Spencer Dinwiddie, who broke onto the scene in 2018, averaging 12.6 points and 6.6 assists in 28.8 minutes a night — all career highs en-route to a third place finish in the voting for Most Improved Player of the Year.

In figuring out what to do with these two point guard dynamos, Kenny Atkinson has one of the better problems a coach can have on his plate.

Does he feel it’s best to stagger their minutes as much as possible, thereby always having a primary ball-handler on the court without forcing them to play off the ball?

Or maybe given the recent trends of the league, the Nets may be better off starting them both in the backcourt, bringing along much more offensive versatility and creativity.

Odds are, the answer to this question will be discovered through trial and error, but either way, getting the most out of arguably Brooklyn’s two best players will go a long way in helping this team win games.
