The Wilson Chandler trade

Philadelphia’s front office made quite the move in acquiring Wilson Chandler from the Denver Nuggets for virtually nothing. The Sixers received Chandler and a 2021 second round pick and an exchange of 2022 second round picks while giving up cash and their Traded Player Exception (TPE) to Denver.

Essentially, Philadelphia acquired Chandler by swallowing his contract with its free cap space. It’s not a bad proposition considering what he brings to the table as a veteran 3-and-D prospect. He could take over Robert Covington‘s starting role at the forward position as another savvy veteran.

Chandler put up 10.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest last season for Denver while shooting 35.8 percent from 3-point range. After spending seven seasons with the Nuggets, Chandler adds yet another dynamic to an already talented Philadelphia squad. It also helps he’s on an expiring contract entering the 2018-19 season. If things don’t work out, he should emerge as a solid asset on the trade market.
